Découverte du Jour - Philip Osuwu
Découverte, découverte... un bien grand mot. Philip Owusu est un pote de Robin Hannibal, la tête pensante de Quadron, le meilleur duo de soul music officiant actuellement au Danemark. D'ailleurs, les deux compères, toujours en contact, ont sorti en 2006 un sublime album de d'électro soul : Living With Owusu & Hannibal. Depuis, Philip Owusu, musicien aux mille talents, a traîné sa bosse et s'est fait remarqué fin 2012 par Gilles Peterson (José James mais pas que) par le biais de son titre solo Goodnight. Son premier Lp SUBS devrait apparaître dans les bacs en 2013. Une des sorties soul les plus (in)attendues et intéressantes de cette année.

Vidéo du Jour - AK Von Malmborg - AUTOSTRADA AV KÄRLEK
Au début de l'année, la jeune suédoiseAnna Karin ('AK') von Malmborg a sorti en compagnie de Mattias Olsson sous le nom d' AK-Momo un premier album excellentissime Return To N-Y que je chroniquerai le mois prochain. Elle revient en solo pour le 2 décembre 2009 pour défendre un premier album solo nommé VÅR TIDS RÄDSLA FÖR AK VON MALMBORG sur le label How Sweet The Sounds de la délicieuse Jennie Abrahamson. Le premier extrait AUTOSTRADA AV KÄRLEK est un morceau pop très pétillant, j'attends la suite avec impatience.

Coup de Coeur - Thea Hjelmeland - Grâce et hypnotisme à l'honneur
Depuis plusieur semaines, j'écoute en boucle ce morceau Perfume de l'angélique norvégienne Thea Hjelmeland. Cette multi instrumentaliste, souvent accompagnée d'une mandoline ou d'un ukulélé, sortira bientôt un premier album. J'ai hâte de connaître la suite.

The Interview

1) Rosie, could you introduce yourself to my readers ?
Well...I'm a swedish singer and songwriter. My debut album "the little orchestra"was released in Scandinavia this spring.
2) Could you describe you musical career (studies, gigs, musical meetings) and how did you find your current musical style ?
I studied music for four years. I started off with singing jazz and continued with studying classical composition. It gave me the tools to compose my music, but as far as musical style goes, I think my education was perhaps more confusing than developing. I find that the more time that passes since I quit school, the more I go back to the musical ideals I had before I started my education.
3) Which artists inspire you and what do you listen to today ?
I’m inspired by a lot of old music, like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, but I try to keep up to date by listening to other artists of my generation. Right now I listen to Laura Marling, Feist and José Gonzalez, among others. I would love to be really up to date and always know about new artists and their music, but unfortunately it’s impossible to always keep your ears open when you’re in a creative mode yourself.
4) I saw you wrote, arranged and produced all the compositions of your first album Little Orchestra ? How long have you known you wanted to be a musician and was the release of this first album a long process?
I think I have known for a long time, but I guess I didn’t know how and where to start. By making this album I have learned more than I could have learned in any classroom about the music industry and the ways of working as a musician. It has been a longer process than if I had left some of the processes in the hands of others. This way I had to learn about every part of the process, which of course took longer… Just making the cover took a few months! But then I also started my own record label, decided what to call the album, created a graphic profile, started a website and registered the album for release during that same period… So, yes it was a long process. But I learned a lot!
5) You created a band of six musicians for your album rightfully titled Little Orchestra but in current life which instrument(s) do you play?
I don’t really play any instrument very well, which is why I learned to write for others! Haha. The only instrument I really know how to use is my voice. But when I compose I often use either the pianoor the guitar. Hopefully someday I will be brave enough to play the guitar and the piano on stage…
6)Your music is personal and intimate. What are your inspirations ?
I'm inspired by a lot of things. Mostly I reflect upon things I see in my surroundings, things that affect me in one way or another. Sometimes it’s directly from my own life, but it could also be about something I heard on the news. Like in the song Wintery March*.
7) What are you thinking about the emerge of scandinavian talented artists like Ane Brun, Anna Ternheim, Nina Kinert, Jenny Wilson, Frida Hyvönen, Rebekka Karijord, Sofia Talvik, etc. who are meeting more and more success in the United States and Southern Europe? Does it make it easier spreading your music among a more receptive audience?
I think it’s a great inspiration that we have so many wonderful musicians in Sweden. I’m not sure whether it makes it easier for me to spread my music, but I have understood that there is a great interest in Swedish music abroad, which surely can’t be a bad thing…
8) Do you prefer studio recording or play in live ? Could you explain the difference for you ?
I definately prefer playing live, studio recording is a lot about technology and everything takes a lot longer than you can ever imagine before you start. Playing live is all about the present and what happens there and then, the atmosphere that you create along with the audience.
9) You played next to other swedish and norwegian artists in festival de musique suédoise ÅÄO! a few weeks ago in Paris, how did you like that experience ?
I loved it! We had a very nice stay in Paris, and got to meet a lot of people during the festival, which was nice. The audience was great, the atmosphere was great. I had a blast!
10) What are your plans for the future ? A tour, new ideas for a future album ?
Right now I'm very inspired to start on my next album. I already have thoughts on how I want it to sound. In fact, I have started some recordingsin my tiny studio in the livingroom. But at the same time, the interest for"the little orchestra" in other countries is awakening so...we'll see what happens. I wouldn't mind going on tour either!

Découverte + Vidéos du Jour - Pomplamoose - Un duo plein de promesses
Ce duo californien, répondant au nom délirant de Pomplamoose, composé de la charmante Nataly Dawn dotée d'une joile voix délicate et du musicien Jack Conte a tout pour me plaire : jolies ritournelles pop/folk, reprises décalées et bonne humeur assumée. Ils peuvent compter sur moi : je suis une nouvelle fan de leur musique. Je me délecte de leurs petites vidéos ludiques et originales. A votre tour de succomber et de les soutenir !

Découverte - Amely Amberson - Une voix soul/folk
Peu de renseignements (outre son parcours musical résumé ici) circulent à propos de cette nouvelle venue sur la scène musicale Amely Amberson mais sa découverte chez Daniel de LSF ne m'a pas laissée de marbre, loin de là. Son timbre de voix chaud, profond et caressant est un baume pour les oreilles en ce dimanche bruineux. J'ai hâte d'en savoir davantage sur la demoiselle.

Découverte explosive - Brittany Bosco - Premier Ep - Spectrum 2.0 - Une Réédition Gratuite Incontournable !
Brittany Boscoe est l'avenir de la soul music messieurs, dames, rien que cela ! Sa Musique est un mélange étrangement séduisant de soul, jazz, hip hop avec une touche rétro moderne, le tout rehaussé par une voix exceptionnelle. Elle a sorti l'an passé son premier Ep Spectrum, une tuerie avec des morceaux aussi renversants que Black & White, Blues For Blue, Billie's Song, Glitch, It Was You ou encore City Of Nowhere, cette année elle ressort son Ep en le renommant justement Spectrum 2.0 qui contient quelques bonus supplémentaires à l'original. Non seulement, elle possède un talent fou mais elle a grand coeur car elle propose gratuitement le téléchargement de la nouvelle mouture de son Ep ici.

Découverte - Jace Everett - Bad Things - Le Générique de True Blood
Je n'ai pas le temps aujourd'hui de faire des chroniques de plusieurs paragraphes et pourtant ce n'est pas le manque de découvertes d'artistes qui m'en empêche loin de là. Rien que par cette belle matinée, j'ai découvert plusieurs chanteuses de jazz vocal prodigieuses... mais le temps est si beau et vous mes chers lecteurs semblez un peu déserter mon blog pour cause évidente de vacances. Alors, je préfère vous parler d'un coup de coeur instantanné : je n'ai pas encore visionné la nouvelle série d'Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) : True Blood (j'en crève d'envie mais bon je patiente un peu...) mais j'ai découvert il y a quelques heures le générique Bad Things de Jace Everett et je le trouve très cool.

(Re)découverte - Megan Washington - Une touche de douceur dans ce monde de brutes
Aujourd'hui - et si cela n'est déjà fait - je vais vous faire découvrir la douce Megan Washington, australienne et excellente chanteuse de son état. Pour ma part, je l'avais découverte grâce au groupe The Bamboos sur le titre King Of Rodeo :
Ses divines vocalises avaient - à l'époque (l'an passé pour être exacte) - titillé mes oreilles. Ce que je savais moins, c'est que la demoiselle avait une carrière solo... car très peu d'informations sont disponibles sur le net. Elle a sorti un petit album jazzy Nightlife en 2007 en compagnie de Sean Foran et l'an passé un Ep qui répond au doux nom de Clementine sans oublier - pour être complète - l'arrivée d'un nouvel Ep fin 2009. Sa voix est vraiment exquise.

Découverte - Florence Rawlings - La Voix
Enfin, enfin mon attente récompensée ! Cela fait un bout de temps que je suis Florence Rawlings. Cette jeune recrue de l'écurie Dramatico (Marianne Faithful, Katie Melua, Carla Bruni, etc.) va enfin sortir son premier album nommé A Fool In Love début septembre 2009. Pour la petite explication la demoiselle a été repérée par Mike Batt en même temps que Katie Melua mais Florence a décidé de finir ses études et de mener à bien d'autres projets. Sa musique possède une cachet soul/blues/pop de bon goût mais la principale attraction - si je peux me permettre - c'est sa voix phénoménale. J'ai hâte d'écouter l'album. En attendant, quelques vidéos et son MySpace feront l'affaire.

Nouvelle Sensation - Theoretical Girl - Pop/Electro et Glamour
Encore une jeune britannique Amy Turnnidge alias Theoretical Girl qui bénéficie plutôt d'une bonne presse. Elle sortira son premier album Divided le 17 août 2009 après nous avoir abreuver depuis près de 18 mois de plusieurs single qui ont fait mouche dont l'addictif Rivals. Sa musique pop/électro possède un zeste d'insolence plutôt bienvenue. A Suivre...
